Namibia Flying Labs ran the project with the Otjiwarongo Municipality between April 2021 and January 2022, according to its project use case; a Flying Labs article dated 31 March 2022 describes the results. A DJI Mavic 2 Pro collected aerial images covering 173.3 hectares of the Ombili informal settlement, which were processed into an orthomosaic and analysed for shack density.
The article reports an estimated 1,540 shacks and 6,160 people in the area. According to the use case, the municipality used the data to amend its town plan to provide services around existing structures while moving a minimal number of residents.
