IFPRI led a pilot research project in Chemba District, in the northern part of Dodoma region, and worked with WeRobotics and Tanzania Flying Labs. Agrinfo, a Tanzanian drone firm from a Flying Labs incubation programme, did the flying.

According to WeRobotics (10 April 2018), over five days in early March 2018 the team collected multispectral drone data of four areas of interest ranging from 50 to 800 hectares, plus data on over 100 farm boundaries and crop types in three villages. The data were meant to ground-truth satellite data and create NDVI maps. The post reports no final analysis; a second data round was scheduled for late April and early May 2018.
